Message Me!

Since we've been given the task to shoot a short film containing a message last Thursday, my group set out to complete it as efficiently as possible.

We came up with a script and the first pages of a storyboard within the session itself and filled out a risk assessment as well as an equipment booking form afterwards. The plan was to shoot the short film in the studio today and to hand it in tomorrow. The plan was botched by sudden and unexpected double reservations of both location and crew members so we decided to reschedule to next Wednesday. Which was a valuable life lesson for me who is always keen on planning ahead and being an early bird when it comes to shooting a film. Filmmaking in and of itself is an endeavour that takes a lot of organisational talent and responsibility. So naturally, I was always nervous about doing anything as soon as possible and I was quite stressed out about it even though my early planning was supposed to keep the stress to a minimum. Sometimes, you can do whatever you want and be the first to show up and act, but things will still turn out wrong and matters will be taken out of your hand completely. Somehow, since I now experienced what was my personal nightmare - not having anything to show at a deadline - it was not as bad as I thought it would be, which made me more relaxed and accepting.

That does not mean that I will henceforth not take deadlines seriously - but it gives me peace of mind to know that rearrangements are usual (and sometimes even necessary). Cause life happens and even the industry cannot cancel it out completely. Turns out that force majeure can really set your thinking straight. Not letting this blog post end on a personal journey of finding my inner peace, I attached our production log so far (script, the current draft of our shot list and the actual messages aka props) we finished.
