Editing the Me, Myself, and I, Pt. 3

After what feels like an eternity, I managed to get the most of my editing done, except transitions and sound, but the last is for another day (and blog).

As I blogged earlier, I have already polished my three minutes by applying slugs and titles. But since I have not yet worked with transitions in Avid MC 8, I thus decided to go look for help on the internet again.

I started hovering the blue line close to the cut I wanted to have transitioned, went to 'Quick Transition' above left of the timeline and a window opened up. Since I wanted to demonstrate the passing of time, I chose a crossfade that was equally centered on both clips and clicked 'Add and Render'.

This I did with most transitions and also with the opening title and end credits, which will fade in and out at their own times. I also experimented with 'Fade to Colour' transition, but only used it twice, fading to and from black.

But I experimented even more. With one clip, setting in right at the beginning of a new scene, I wanted to introduce the scene only with the audio, but not with the corresponding image. So I decided to use the 'Unlink' button at the left side of the timeline, selected the relevant clip and deleted the visuals, leaving a black filler behind that I marked with above mentioned fade to black transitions.

Finally, I decided to look for a free and suitable soundtrack on FreeMusicArchive.org. Since the atmosphere of my piece turned out much more calmer than I thought it would, the soundtracks I decided upon in the pre-production did not really fit anymore, so I registered and looked for further ones that pertain to the Creative Commons 4.0 legislature and are free to use and build upon as long as the artist is being attributed.

Lastly, I linked the relevant media into my project bin to experiment with the overall impact of the film. So far, I have not yet found the right piece.
