Production Meetings

Today, the film projects 'Broken Planets' and 'A Good One' held their very first production meetings.

In each production meeting, we discussed the current state of affairs and what everyone aka every role needed to know or bring to the table.

As I am responsible for the lighting in 'Broken Planets', I talked with our director Chloe about the light settings she wishes to employ. Since I sat down with her script yesterday, I already knew that her project would need at least three different scenarios, one for each time period of her piece.

She confirmed today that this was what she had in mind and so we quickly came up with three lighting concepts, of which I quickly found reference images from film and TV series to have an idea to model them against to:

1. The 'Romantic Scenario':

2. The 'Moody Scenario':

3. The 'Bitter-Sweet Scenario':

With the last colour scheme, I wanted to thematically combine both the romantic and the dark lighting scenarios into a tragic one, thereby - so I hope - coming full circle with the lighting concept. I find it logical to combine the sweet with the bitter, for the ending is truly a bitter-sweet one: The male protagonist, who has accidentally destroyed their relationship's precious artefacts, now seeks to replace it with a better one. Being an astronomer, he attempts to harness the power of the stars to make this a truly memorable replacement.

Just to find that he has come to late: His wife has passed away of old age, and he has spend his entire lifetime replacing an artefact instead of living this precious life together with his wife...

Sigh...

After the production meeting for 'Broken Planets', the production meeting for my script 'A Good One' ensued and we discussed where we were at.

Since Chloe and I prepared a casting call already last Saturday (me providing the story and character descriptions and Chloe planning, compiling, and publishing all the relevant information), we already had two (possibly three) actors who were interested in the roles of Death and Hayden. As we are currently having an unexpected run with our actors, we decided that we would hold auditions for our project and that we would film them to have evidence in case our director Has should be on the fence with the actors and need to re-watch bits of the audition.

Chloe thus scheduled the auditions for Wednesday and a combined test shooting day for both crews of 'Broken Planets' and 'A Good One' on Thursday to get a feeling for what the set and sound stage are like when actually shooting in there.

So we will be really busy in the upcoming days to Easter and Easter break. Better get started!
